Prior's Field Alumna and Netflix The Crown Star – Victoria Hamilton launches Buy a Brick project.

victoria-hamilton-pf-girls-8Actress and Prior’s Field alumna Victoria Hamilton returned to school this week, alongside her father Tim Sharp, to launch a ‘Buy a Brick’ fundraising appeal – part of a campaign to fund a world-class Urology Centre at The Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford. Echoing a ‘Buy a Brick’ appeal launched by Her Majesty the Queen in 1957 to help complete Guildford Cathedral, Victoria, who is playing Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother in the widely acclaimed Netflix production of ‘The Crown’, signed a brick to launch the appeal. Mr Sharp is a founding trustee of The Prostate Project, a Guildford-based prostate cancer charity, which has already raised £1.65m towards the build cost and has been asked by the hospital to raise a further £350,000. Anyone who would like to support the appeal can buy a brick at https://mydonate.bt.com/events/buyabrick1
Mrs Haddock reports, ‘Sixth Form Sociologists and Psychologists, together with some Fifth Form students, attended an informal question and answer session with Elly Gadd, Governor of HMP YOI Bullingdon. Topics ranged from a ‘typical day’ in the life of a male prisoner to whether some people are born violent, as well as issues such as staff shortages, privatisation of the Prison Service and whether the prison regime is sufficiently harsh. Ms Gadd succeeded in overturning many of the preconceptions we all had about the pr ison service, as well as the image of a typical prison governor!’
Junior pupils vied with each other at hockey and football, while their senior counterparts contested at netball, table tennis and badminton. It could only have been the annual House Sport competition – eagerly cheered on by the rest of the school.
