Sporting Prowess – Friday 1 December

We have had another fantastic week in the Sports Department.

The U15 hockey squad have been particularly busy with both their County Tournament and the 3rd round of the Independent Schools Cup taking place this week.

County Tournament: starting with 4 matches in the group stage, the team played really well together in each game and finished with 3 wins and 1 draw. Beating Tormead in the quarter-finals we then convincingly won our semi-final against City of London Freeman School. The final match was between PF and Reigate Grammar, who we had drawn to in the group match. Knowing it would be a tough competition the team started strong and took the lead. Scores were level at half time, however, after a very tense second half RGS won the match 2-1. The whole team performed exceptionally well on the day and have been placed runners up out of 20 schools. Well done everyone!

On Thursday the team travelled to Brentwood in Essex for their Cup match. Playing on an exceptionally cold day the team tried to keep warm and completely dominated the entire game, returning home with a phenomenal 5-0 win. We are looking forward to the next round.

On Wednesday our Cross Country runners took part in an event at St Edmunds. The U12’s won their age group with Christina finishing 1st, Molly 7th, Lucy 12th, Emilie 17th. In the U13’s: Annabelle finished 6th, Lara 9th and Lauren 18th. The following girls have been selected to represent Waverley at the Surrey Schools Cross Country on Sat 20th January in Reigate.  U13:  Evie finished 1st, Christina finished 2nd, Molly finished 7th. Junior girls: Eliza finished 3rd. Inter girls:   Imogen finished 2nd, Georgia 5th, Evelyn 6th, Emily 8th

Also on Wednesday, six U12 netball teams took part in matches against Tormead. Despite the freezing cold evening, each team played so well and the final result was a draw with 3 wins and 3 losses.

The U14 A&B netball teams fought hard against Claremont Fan Court and ended the week on a high with wins for both teams. Well done girls!
