Godalming Museum played host to a dazzling evening on Thursday night, when there was a special preview of our exhibition ‘At the Heart of Godalming’. The Museum ground floor was transformed and beautifully adorned with displays full of historic and beguiling photographs, documents and artefacts. We were so privileged to welcome Lizanne Milton, benefactor of our archive project, who gave a passionate speech about the importance of the archives and the role that Prior’s Field has played in her life and, indeed, the history of Godalming. She was beyond thrilled that her generous donation has enabled the archive to be collated and curated by our wonderful archivist, Joanne Halford. Lizanne is a philanthropic ex parent who is passionate about the educational experience that Prior’s Field offers and was moved to ensure that these precious records are preserved and shared with a wider audience.
The Museum was full of supporters from the Prior’s Field community who were completely bowled over by the extraordinary display. It was a pleasure to meet John Young, a volunteer at the Museum and a local historian, who surprised us all by bringing his own collection of photographs and newspaper articles dating back to the 1960’s when he was a foreman on the building of Field Wing. What a fantastic addition to a magnificent and unforgettable evening!
The exhibition cannot be recommended highly enough to all those in our community. It’s open over the half term week, and runs until 17 February (Tuesdays to Saturdays), entry is free.
Thank you to Lizanne and Robert, for your generous gift to the school, and congratulations to Joanne Halford and the Development Team for producing such a sensational exhibition!
