Key life skills of problem solving, working with others, and improving one’s own performance are all integral features of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) scheme. All girls are offered the chance to participate in the DofE award.
Whilst the award is open to all this does not mean it suits everyone. It is an entirely voluntary activity and must be undertaken as an addition to the many other activities on offer at Prior’s Field School. It is hard work and requires dedication, perseverance, a fair amount of “get-up-and-go” attitude and a significant amount of individual responsibility.
Girls enroll in the Bronze level during the Third Form and complete the level during the Fourth Form. In the Fifth form they may opt for the Silver level and during their time in the Sixth form Gold level may be completed.
Girls complete the training and practice expeditions at various stages during the year. Bronze expeditions take place around Surrey, Silver may travel further afield to national parks such as the Peak District, Lake District or Snowdonia. For Gold, the locations have been led by the pupils and over the years expeditions have been to Iceland, Morocco, Norway, Albania and France.
