We had an exciting start to the week with the arrival of sculptures of all shapes and sizes in the Rose Garden, as AppArt prepares for its grand opening of the full exhibition on 30 March. In the meantime, we have been privileged to welcome children from a few local primary schools this week to enjoy the sculpture trail in our beautiful grounds. Some of the visiting children also enjoyed taking part in a workshop run by our Art Department where they made some beautiful armatures – wire sculptures of simple shapes such as a Maple Leaf, shell, flowers and birds.

On Tuesday night, the Upper Sixth girls gave their Gold Duke of Edinburgh presentation. This was the final part of the expedition section of their Gold Award. They shared their experiences of last summer’s expedition to Albania, where they undertook a 4 day circular walk in the Balkan Mountains which included crossing the border into Montenegro. They impressed an enthralled audience with their adventures and gave advice on what, and what not, to eat while on expedition. There were also number of certificates awarded for Bronze, Silver and Gold Award completions, including ex Prior’s Field Sixth Former Sophie, who returned to collect not only her Gold Duke of Edinburgh brooch, but also her own certification as a qualified Duke of Edinburgh Assessor. We were pleased to welcome Cath Tanton, Operations Officer for the South East Region who helped give out the awards.

The Sixth Form House was awash with cakes on Friday morning, baked and sold by Sixth Formers in support of Macmillan Cancer Support’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning. As the week came to a close, the whole school came together for the annual House Cross Country Competition, this year with a theme of ‘Up, up and away!’
