Houses

At Prior’s Field we have three houses. They are called ‘Frank’, ‘Pankhurst’ and ‘Austen’. Pankhurst is named after Emily Pankhurst, who fought for women to have the right to vote. Frank is named after Anne Frank,  who wrote ‘The Diary of Anne Frank’ during the Second World War. Austen is named after Jane Austen, who is famous for the wonderful novels she has written. These names were chosen, through a vote, by the whole school. Austen’s colour is sky blue, Frank is red and Pankhurst is purple.  Each House has a special logo, which was designed by girls in each house.

All girls belong to a house and every other Wednesday morning, we have a house meeting where we meet and discuss issues like house matches and house plays. Each house competes against other houses with inter-house netball and hockey matches, plays and quizzes.

The House activities are a lot of fun, and the really cool thing is that we get to have an input into what we do in the Houses. So, for example, in 2008-2009 we had a House logo competition, a House Christmas tree decoration competition, a staff House basketball  (that was something to behold!), a House Wimbledon, a House quiz and of course House netball, hockey, rounders and the big one: Sports Day.

One of the best House things we did this year was the spectacular House music and drama competition: “PF’s Got Talent”. All the Houses took part and the theme was chosen by each House. Pankhurst chose “fairytales”, Frank chose “love” and Austen chose “stars”. You could get involved in acting or performing musically and either in group stuff or individually. If you didn’t want to be on stage, you could work backstage helping people with props etc. I was part of the backstage crew and I made a massive spoon! (Not a lot of people can say that!) You could also get involved with publicising the events by making posters about where it was and what it was going to be about.

Each girl will stay in her House for the whole time she is at Prior’s Field and it is a really good way to get to know girls from other Year Groups.
