The School Day

The day starts with registration at 8.10. That's in your Form Room and it's really, really important that you are there for it. It's when your Form tutor and Prefect read out notices for the week and the day.

We have a daily message board on Frog which comes up automatically when you log on to computers and which has reminders for the day on it. (It also has 'Words for the week' - chosen weekly by different forms, and 'picture of the week' from the Art Department.) Registration is done electronically each morning and afternoon.

On Mondays and Fridays there are full school assemblies in the Hall. They're ok. You need to remember your hymn book on Mondays and on Fridays the prefects often take the assemblies and tell us what they are doing for the school. Generally, assemblies are quite varied and we often have speakers, or really good presentations which leave us with lots of things to think about.

On Wednesdays, we have either Year Group assemblies or House Assemblies - when we discuss things as Houses and make House decisions.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, we have Form time when our Form Tutors talk to us, go through arrangements, or talk to each of us individually about our reports or our progress.

At 8.50 Period 1 starts. There are two 55 minute lessons (we call them periods) before break at 10.45. (You pick up break in the Dining Hall - and eat it there - or outside if the weather's good.) Then there are periods after break at 11.15. This takes us to 1.10, or 1.00 if you are in the first form.

At 1.10 we have lunch break. Lunch timings vary from day to day - so different year groups get the chance to go into lunch first - although to start with First Formers are timetabled early for every day - to help us settle in!

At 2.15 we have registration and then a final 2 periods until the end of the day at 4.10.

At that point, you can either get picked up by your parents - or you can stay at school and do clubs. There's one clubs session that runs until 5.15 and one that goes to 6.00. Loads of people stay and do clubs - it's a lovely way to unwind at the end of the day.

If you want to, you can also stay in school until 6.00 and do prep in the library. This is supervised. Some people really like doing this - because it means they've got their prep done before they go home and they don't need to worry about it. (Also, no mums and dads breathing over your shoulders when you're doing your homework!)

There are some days when the routine is different - we might have a House match or activity period 4 for example, or be going on a trip.

But this gives you an idea of how the day works.

A few other things - you will have 2 lockers. One in (or near) your Form room for all your work stuff, and one in the Sports Hall for your games kit. It's a really good idea to label all your stuff and also to get a padlock for your lockers. Just so you can keep track of your stuff.

Ask your peer mentor anything - they're there to help you.

There we are, that's my quick practical guide. Hope it's been useful!
