Induction

All new girls to Prior’s Field are given a buddy or ‘shadow’, to get to know them and help them out as they settle into the school. There is also a peer-mentoring scheme within the school and small class sizes mean that the form tutor quickly gets to know each girl.

Girls joining the first form will have part of their induction programme in Shropshire, whilst the Sixth Form go off together to the Isle of Wight for their induction. Those joining at other stages will be inducted to the school by the relevant Head of Year. The size of Prior’s Field means that no pupil is ever invisible and any problems with homesickness or settling in are picked up quickly. Boarding staff are in frequent touch with parents by telephone or email to ensure that all pupils are fully supported as they adapt to a new environment and new culture.

Integration happens successfully every year and, for those joining the Sixth Form, joining a well-established group of students is not a barrier to selection for leadership posts. In the last few years girls who are new to the school have been selected as Deputy Head Girls and new girls are always well-represented in the Prefects Team and as Heads of House.
