Prior’s Field has a uniquely interesting history – originating both from its Voysey architecture and the literary and scientific heritage gained from its founder Julia Huxley – which benefited its earliest pupils and still influences those today. Subsequent Headmistresses went on to bring further energies, interests and expertise to the school over the decades.
The history of the school and the characters of its staff and girls are captured for posterity in Prior’s Field School – A Century Remembered 1902 – 2002, a book written by Honorary Old Girl Margaret Elliott, with a foreword by Baroness Warnock who, as Mary Wilson, was a pupil at the school during the war. The book, normally priced £10, is available to Old Girls and Friends of Prior’s Field for £6 (there is a limited availability, whilst stocks last). Contact Celia Toms on telephone number 01483 813 459 or by email ctoms@priorsfieldschool.com if you would like to take advantage of this offer.
