Sports

In the PE Department, we support the Prior’s Field’s ethos by providing an all round PE and physical activity programme which allows each individual student to develop her talents to the best of her ability. The different sports on offer include:

Hockey

Netball

Rounders

Cross Country

Tennis

Swimming

Basketball

Badminton

Gymnastics

Fitness

Volleyball

Rugby

Football

Aerobics

Athletics

By providing a wide range of sporting opportunities through the curriculum, clubs, teams, sports tours and trips we hope that each student will develop a sporting interest that will encourage her to adopt a fit and healthy lifestyle and a positive attitude towards physical activity.

To support our students’ different sporting needs we have built links with the local community which provide opportunities for developing leadership skills through the JSLA and CSLA awards; receiving specialist coaching via local sports clubs; and participating and officiating in or for local teams in the Surrey Youth Games.

Games

During Games lessons, students learn about goal-setting and the importance of tactics and strategies to help them in the pursuit of excellence. These skills are essential and critical skills in the workplace, along with sportsmanship and team work. To help develop these skills we encourage all our students to participate in team practices. Here they learn to be assertive, take risks and to have fun with their peers. We are proud of the successes of our different sports teams at local, county and national level and we celebrate numerous team and individual successes each year with students representing the county in athletics, cricket, cross-country, golf, gymnastics, hockey, ice – skating, netball, swimming and tennis.

To support these performances we offer sports scholarships for the more talented performers and we arrange annual sports tours to help raise the standard of the teams through the experience of new and competitive opposition and more specialist coaching. In 2009, we are offering a Tennis Tour to the Juan Carlos Ferrero Tennis Centre in Spain and a Ski Trip, open to all, to the French Alps. In October 2010, we are hoping to enter our teams in the Malta Rally where a large number of British and Maltese Schools compete in numerous sports and receive specialist coaching sessions over the 5 day tournament.

Extra-curricular Clubs

Students enjoy participating in eventing and riding lessons at a local riding school. There is also a very successful programme of tennis coaching run by Orbit Tennis and a dance school which has enabled students to perform with great success at local festivals.

Sports clubs are open to all and there has been huge support from students for swimming, circuit training, the ‘Tone Zone’, badminton, running, social netball and much more.

House Competitions

House spirit is very contagious at Prior’s Field and the different sporting events are always well supported. These events are an opportunity for students and staff to be involved, with taking part being more important than coming first!
