The fast pace in the PE department has certainly continued over the past 10 days with all age groups taking part in a number of fixtures recently.
The seniors had their Hockey County Tournament this week and played exceptionally well. Against some tough competition, we came away with one draw (CLFS) and two losses (Reigate Grammar and St George’s, Weybridge). The 1st XI also convincingly won their hockey match against Woldingham whilst narrowly losing their netball matches (1st & 2nd VII) against George Abbot.
The U15’s have enjoyed netball matches against Manor House. The A team had a marginal loss while the B team brought home a win. On the hockey pitch, they dominated play from start to finish and had a resounding win against Christ Hospital.
The U14’s took part in a netball competition we have entered called SISTERS n SPORT National Cup. They travelled to Walthamstow Hall and had a fantastic game. They are now through to the second round. The hockey team travelled to Farlington to play in their first 11 a side hockey match. The match ended in a draw and was great preparation for their County Tournament which took place yesterday. During the tournament the team showed tremendous improvement and progress throughout the day and came away with one win (St Theresa’s) and two losses (St John’s and St George’s).
The U13 A&B’s have had two hockey matches, one against Copthorne Preparatory School and the other Sutton High. In both matches our teamwork was clinical and proved too strong for the opposition. The U13 C&D netball teams travelled to St Edmund’s and had a great time on the court. Both teams enjoyed success from this fixture.
The U12’s, like the others, have also been busy both on the hockey pitch and netball court. On the netball court the A&B teams beat The Royal but unfortunately lost their matches against Tormead. The C&D team have played against Tormead while the E&F team took on St Catherine’s. All teams put up a good fight but suffered narrow defeats when the final whistle was blown. The U12A netball team have also played their Sister in Sport match against Haberdashers’ Aske’s School for Girls. Leading for the first half of the match the team looked set for victory, however, the pressure set in and unfortunately we lost by 1 goal.
The U12 A&B hockey teams took part in our annual PF Tournament last week Saturday. Playing in only their second match of the season, they went from strength to strength during the event. The A team finished third overall whilst the B team were runners up.
Off the court and pitch, our junior runners took part in the Junior Schools Cross Country Cup competition. Six runners competed with the top four scoring for the team. Our girls had a fantastic run and have been awarded first place overall. Congratulations to the following Second Former’s: Christina who came first, Evie who came second, Molly placed 9th and Eleanor 15th. First Former’s Katie and Jessenia came 18th and 19th respectively. An exceptional achievement to have the entire team within the top 20 (out of 50) runners.
On the Tennis court we reached the quarter finals of the 14&U Sutton SV Winter Regional Tour with our Academy students Sophie and Jessica playing extremely well in the high standard Grade 3 tournament at Sutton Academy.
We have a two week sporting update for you and it’s been a busy two weeks despite last week’s unusual weather!
Two weekends ago only one round of matches could go ahead against Tormead due to icy pitches. The U15XI’s had an end to end match with the final result being a 2-1 win and Fourth Former Esta was awarded player of the match. The U13A team completely dominated play and finished with a convincing win while the B team enjoyed a 0-0 draw.
Last week the snowy conditions were a real challenge for PE lessons and fixtures. Fortunately, some matches were able to still take place.
The U13A and U13B netball teams took to the indoor court against Claremont Fan Court. Both teams came away with a win and scores of 11-6 and 11-3 respectively. Players of the match were Second Formers Coco and Anya. On the same day the senior netballers travelled to The Royal where the 1st VII drew 10-10, player of the match was Fifth Former Millie while the U16B VII won 15-9 with Imi G receiving their player of the match vote.
Our swimmers have been involved in a gala against Notre Dame as well as the GSA gala at St Catherine’s. The following girls earned podium finishes at the GSA gala: Second Former Annabelle came second in U13 50m butterfly, Second Former Libby came third in U13 50m freestyle and Third Former Eloise came third in U15 50m breaststroke. Well done to all the swimmers who did us proud against some very tough competition.
Onto this week which has been extremely busy with the original scheduled fixtures going ahead as well squeezing in various tournaments that had been postponed due to the snowfall.
The U13 hockey team took part in their Surrey Tournament at Kingston Grammar School on Tuesday. Working exceptionally well as a team they achieved some fantastic results in their group stages which saw them finish with 3 wins (Epsom College, Wimbledon High, Tiffins), 1 draw (St George’s) and 1 loss (Cranleigh). We finished a very respectable 6th place overall.
In other hockey matches the 2nd XI, U12B & U12C teams have played against Farlington. All matches were highly competitive with the U12C team winning 4-3. Fifth Former Brydie & Fourth Former Evelyn were the 2nd XI players of the match while First Formers Tabby B and Sophie Q were the B and C players of the match respectively. The U13 team enjoyed their first competitive 11-a-side match against Farnborough Hill and comfortably won with Second Former Emily M given player of the match.
Several netball matches have also taken place this week. U12 A&B won convincingly against Rodborough – First Formers Suzie and Lucy I were respective players of matches. U14 A drew 18-18 to Howard of Effingham where an unfortunate ankle injury ended a highly competitive game early. Third Former Beatrice N received player of the match. U15 A&B teams suffered very narrow defeats to Manor House with Fourth Formers Issie F and Esta awarded players of their matches. 1st, 2nd & 3rd senior teams enjoyed very comfortable wins against Charterhouse. Players of the match were given to Fourth Formers Evelyn, Emma H and Sixth Former Emily B, respectively.
Yesterday, a very excited U12A netball team travelled to Wallington High School to take part in the Surrey Netball Finals Day. They played exceptionally well and should be very proud of themselves and the high standard of netball they showed on court, only losing two out of seven matches.
The U12 team played against The Royal and won 10-6 with India and Sophie being awarded players of the match.
The U13’s have played both Manor House and Guildford High. The A team won comfortably against Manor House (26-12) and had a close loss with GHS (18-23). Players of the match went to Annabelle and Sky, respectively. The B team were victorious in both of their matches. Tabby was player of the match against Manor House while Anya was given player of the match for the GHS match. The C team won 9-2 against Manor House with Maddy and Jess sharing player of the match.
The U14’s had a tough encounter against Rodborough. Daisy received player of the match and the final score was 15-22 loss.
The U15 A&B teams had matches against The Royal. A team won 24-17 while the B team had a narrow loss 7-12. Players of the match were Zelah and Jess respectively.
The seniors had 3 teams play against Woldingham. 1st VII won 25-7, player of the match Erin Saunders. 2nd VII lost 9-18, player of the match was shared between Immi and Emily. U16B VII fought hard and narrowly lost 12-16 with Elliot awarded player of the match.
There have been 3 hockey matches, one for U13B and two for the U12’s. U13B’s match was very exciting against Amesbury with PF winning 4-3 while the U12’s won convincingly. The U12’s second match was against Ripley Court which was a game of two halves. The first half was tough and possession was dominated by our opposition, however, in the second half the team worked hard and won their half.
Cross Country runners took part in a fairly tough course with a couple of cheeky hills at Surbiton. Evie and Christina finished 3rd and 4th and well done to the other runners in Year 8 and 9.
The big event of the week has been the U12 and U13 Surrey Netball Tournament. The U13’s had a really good tournament and their team spirit was absolutely fantastic. They finished the tournament with two wins (Tormead & Cranleigh), two draws (Hall Grove & Kingston Grammar) and one loss (St Cat’s). The U12’s battled hard and should be congratulated for their wins against Tormead, Claremont Fan Court, Kingston Grammar and Notre Dame. The U12 player of the tournament was First Former Grace and for U13 was Second Former Annabelle.
The U14’s have been in action against Manor House and The Royal. Although the matches against Manor House were quite tough, it was a tightly fought contest against The Royal. Congratulations to those who received player of the match : U14A – Third Former Abbi, U14B – Third Former Vanessa (for both matches) and U14 C – Third Former Emilia.
U12 (B, C, D) and U15 hockey teams took part in matches against St Edmunds. All teams enjoyed convincing wins. Well done to the following who were players of their match: U12 B – First Former India, U12 C – First Former Erin, U12 D – First Former Lilly and U15 – Fourth Former Emma.
The U16A netball team had a close but successful encounter with Christ Hospital and later in the week the played Howard of Effingham Well done to Fifth Former Liv who was player of the match.
And to end a busy week for the U12’s, most of the First Form enjoyed matches against St Catherine’s.
On Saturday, five girls ran for the Waverley team at the Surrey Schools Cross Country. First Formers Evie finished 18th, and Christina 22nd in the U13 age group. Third Former Eliza finished 10th in the Junior Girls. Fourth Formers Georgia and Emily ran in the Inter girl’s category. They all ran extremely well, in such muddy cold conditions.
Congratulations to Evie and Eliza who qualified to run for Surrey in the inter-counties later this term.
On Monday, our U12, U13 and U15 teams attended the GHS relays and had great fun in this relaxed event around Stoke Park. The teams finished 6th. 7th and 6th respectively.
In the world of netball:
The U16A & U15A played against Royal Russell last week Saturday. Despite some very testing weather and everyone ending up drenched, the standard of play remained high. U15’s won comfortably against their U16B team while our U16A’s fought right to the end and came away with a narrow loss. Players of the match were Fourth Formers Elliot (U15) and Fifth Former Brydie (U16). On Wednesday the U14 C&D teams took to the court against Christ Hospital. Matches were evenly contested with a win for the C team and a loss for the D team. Well done to Third Formers Poppy (U14C) and Jasmine (U14D) who were players of the match.
On the hockey front, most age groups have been involved with matches this week.
U12 A & C teams travelled to Farnborough Hill, U13’s played at home against Howard of Effingham and Guildford High, U14’s faced Sir William Perkins while the U15’s took part in the 4th round of their Independent Schools Cup.
U12A drew while the U12C team lost, well done to First Formers Annabelle and Maisy who were awarded player of the match for their respective teams. U13A won convincingly won against Howard of Effingham and U13B had a great game against Guildford High narrowly losing 1-2. Players of the match were Second Formers Kira (A) and Frances (B). U14’s won 2-0 with Third Former Izzy as their player of the match. The U15’s had their very important Cup match against Surbiton High. After being put under a lot of pressure we bounced back and made Surbiton work hard for their win. Well done girls for a great effort and to Fourth Former Emma for receiving player of the match.
The swimmers have also enjoyed taking part in a gala against Notre Dame.
We have had another fantastic week in the Sports Department.
The U15 hockey squad have been particularly busy with both their County Tournament and the 3rd round of the Independent Schools Cup taking place this week.
County Tournament: starting with 4 matches in the group stage, the team played really well together in each game and finished with 3 wins and 1 draw. Beating Tormead in the quarter-finals we then convincingly won our semi-final against City of London Freeman School. The final match was between PF and Reigate Grammar, who we had drawn to in the group match. Knowing it would be a tough competition the team started strong and took the lead. Scores were level at half time, however, after a very tense second half RGS won the match 2-1. The whole team performed exceptionally well on the day and have been placed runners up out of 20 schools. Well done everyone!
On Thursday the team travelled to Brentwood in Essex for their Cup match. Playing on an exceptionally cold day the team tried to keep warm and completely dominated the entire game, returning home with a phenomenal 5-0 win. We are looking forward to the next round.
On Wednesday our Cross Country runners took part in an event at St Edmunds. The U12’s won their age group with Christina finishing 1st, Molly 7th, Lucy 12th, Emilie 17th. In the U13’s: Annabelle finished 6th, Lara 9th and Lauren 18th. The following girls have been selected to represent Waverley at the Surrey Schools Cross Country on Sat 20th January in Reigate. U13: Evie finished 1st, Christina finished 2nd, Molly finished 7th. Junior girls: Eliza finished 3rd. Inter girls: Imogen finished 2nd, Georgia 5th, Evelyn 6th, Emily 8th
Also on Wednesday, six U12 netball teams took part in matches against Tormead. Despite the freezing cold evening, each team played so well and the final result was a draw with 3 wins and 3 losses.
The U14 A&B netball teams fought hard against Claremont Fan Court and ended the week on a high with wins for both teams. Well done girls!
In some very cold and windy conditions, six hockey teams took to the pitch against Tormead over the weekend. Matches were very competitive but we definitely had the edge of the opposition and came away with 4 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss.
The U13 netball team took part in their plate match against New Hall at the beginning of the week. After falling behind in the first quarter, the girls really began to link up and managed to level the score by the end of the second quarter. It remained a highly contested match right until the end although we unfortunately narrowly lost the match.
The U13A hockey team and U12B netball team enjoyed success as they comfortably won their matches against Notre Dame and St Edmunds, respectively.
The U13 gymnasts took part in a competition with St Catherine’s and Manor House. Bravely performing solo routines, the girls really enjoyed the experience which was new to many of them.
The Junior Cross Country team competed in the South East Finals at the English School’s team competition. The team performed extremely well, finishing 4th overall, just missing out by 14 points on a place in the National finals; individual performances included First Formers Evie and Christina who finished 6th and 9th respectively.
The U12 and Open Team swimmers took to the pool against St George’s, Licensed Victuallers, St Mary’s and Holyport. The U12’s were placed 3rd overall and the Open Team were placed 2nd. Well done swimmers!
Hockey fixtures have been extremely successful this week. The U15XI team took to the field against Christ Hospital where the team work was fantastic and the end result was a 3-0 win. The U13 A & B hockey teams played against Sir William Perkins School and both teams came away with convincing wins.
Netball matches have been just as victorious. The U15 team played extremely well together and came away with another win against Sir William Perkins School. However, the highlight of the week has to go to the U12 A & B netball teams who played in the annual Tormead tournament. Facing some really tough competition both teams played exceptionally well and returned to school each with a shield as winners of their respective tournament. Fantastic result girls! Well done to all who took part in House Sport yesterday afternoon. The atmosphere was electric and it was great seeing everyone enjoying themselves. Junior years participated in hockey and football and the senior girls were involved with netball, badminton and table tennis. The results will be announced in the next assembly.
