At Prior’s Field, all pupils follow GCSE courses in certain core areas but there is an element of choice in the remaining ‘option’ subjects. The girls will receive careful guidance from teaching, pastoral and subject staff as well as our Careers department, and of course you as their parent, in this process.
Most girls will take 9 GCSEs, although by following the separate sciences course (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) it is possible to take 10. Girls who do not opt for triple science can take an additional short course in Religious Studies, European Computer Driving Licence Level 1 or a Sports Leadership Award.
There are compulsory core subjects: English, English Literature, Mathematics (IGCSE), Science (certificated as two GCSEs) and a modern foreign language – French, Spanish or Latin. In addition, girls can choose up to three other options including History, Geography, RS, Art, Food and Nutrition, Dance, ICT, Textiles, Music, Drama, Design Technology, PE and a second language.
Other compulsory periods are Games and PSHEE. The Duke of Edinburgh award is optional but highly recommended.
