Quiz Night

We are incredibly grateful for the fantastic support that our PSA gives the school, so far this academic year they have kindly funded £10,000 worth of equipment which has enabled us to provide the girls with an enhanced educational experience. This week we have been pleased to announce how the generous donations have been spent across the departments and subject areas, including amongst many; the Sports department who received equipment to support our amazing gymnastics and hockey teams, infrared camera for our scientists, tailors’ dummies for our textile students, garden structures for outdoor events and additions to the Music department that will enable our students to enjoy playing and singing.

One of the many ways that the PSA raise these invaluable funds for the school is by holding events such as the PSA Quiz which took place last week. The PF Community had fun while exercising the old grey muscle.

The PSA report further ‘On Friday night, the Hall was packed to the rafters with parents and staff competing for the annual title of 2018 PSA Quiz Champions.

The compere for the evening was parent Jamie Crittall, who gamely volunteered to referee the annual competition despite only returning from the USA the day before (having spent the flight home from Vegas mugging up on the questions!).  He was ably assisted by his L6 runner and scorer, Charne.

Having learned their lessons in earlier years, a number of teams jumped in early and played their jokers in the first round.  Jamie’s Quiz Master mettle was well and truly tested in the tricky Who Fought Whom round, which almost resulted in new battles to add to the history books as contentious answers were debated!

Many teams opted to use their Opt Out for the tricky Sports round and there was very little between the top tier teams as the Quiz moved towards its brutal conclusion; the Wipe Out round. Old hands played this round cautiously (some too conservatively) and only one team Wiped Out their score.

After a nail-biting and tricky set of tiebreakers, the results were

2018 PSA Quiz Champions – the Third Form’s Universally Challenged

In joint second place

  • the Upper Sixth’s So Long and Thanks for all the Fish (competed as a team since Second Form!),
  • Lower Sixth Missed Connections and
  • 2A or not 2A (whose year group needs no explanation – great team name!).

Wonderfully engraved PF Wooden Spoons will be gracing the kitchens of the Fifth Form Let’s Get Quizzical team.

A delicious curry supper was served mid-way through the evening and After Eight mints ensured that sugar levels were high enough to tackle the final rounds.

The PSA is hugely grateful to Jamie for donating his time and for delivering such a polished performance, thinking on his feet as the questions got trickier! Thanks also to Charne for giving up her Friday evening and being a lively and efficient scorer.  As ever, the PSA is indebted to the amazing catering and maintenance teams for all their help, to the Godalming Lions for providing the quiz and to all the Quizzers who helped to make the evening truly memorable.’

Following a delicious dinner provided by our very own Chef, Ricky Adlington, and his team, we were entertained by a mesmerising Mike Fairall, member of The Magic Circle, who was flying out to Moscow the following day to perform at The Metropol Hotel, Red Square! The evening was summed up by a new First Form parent who commented, ‘What a great way to get to know other PF parents; can’t wait until the next event.’
