Head’s Round Up: Friday 27 March 2020
This has been a very difficult week for everyone and it has been so heart-warming to see how the Prior’s Field community has been pulling together to support each other. We have been readjusting and learning how to work remotely. On Monday, the first day of remote learning, I was thrilled to hear that every girl had logged on to ShowMyHomework. Girls, I am proud of you all for being so diligent and prepared to continue with your studies despite the circumstances. Already many girls have fed back to their teachers how much they appreciate both the academic work and the pastoral support they are receiving. I am extremely grateful to both girls and parents who have taken the time to express their thanks and also to contribute ideas. We really are learning together.
Already we have seen wonderful initiatives actual and promised across the school. Some form groups and tutor groups have met virtually; girls have been working together despite being apart, like the Sixth Form sewing group. Given that today is in fact the last day of term, the focus has turned towards the holidays. Conscious that the girls will have fewer options than normal in terms of how they occupy themselves, many staff have provided Easter quizzes and challenges. Ask your daughter about Mrs Fairhurst’s cricket challenge, Mr Pratt’s Music quizzes and the Grade 1 Music challenge. Miss Curtin’s co-curricular craft activities, which she has been promoting daily this week, can easily be carried on into the break. Today she presented a special Easter competition. I look forward to seeing photographs of the Easter wreaths and all the other exciting things the girls have been up to.
Mr Butler, our newly discovered Joe Wicks, is inspiring us all – he has just completed his own challenge: Couch to 5K. He is now drawing breath, eagerly awaiting entries to the Huxley Essay Competition.
There are many things to look forward to after the Easter break. One I intend to challenge myself with – and I hope you will all join me, girls, parents and guardians – is Mrs Derrick’s online Classical Greek course.
Now the ‘holiday’ has come, keep safe and enjoy some precious family time together.
