Sport at Prior’s Field
The Physical Education and Games programme at Prior’s Field is busy, varied, challenging and fun. Our goal is to balance performance with participation and so our ethos is a healthy blend of ‘pursuit of sporting excellence’ and ‘sport for all’. This allows for all pupils to achieve their potential. We hope that each student develops a sporting interest that will encourage her to adopt a fit healthy lifestyle and a positive attitude towards lifelong physical activity.
All girls have the opportunity to experience the wide range of sporting activities on offer in our diverse co-curricular programme and, if the commitment and passion is there, become involved with the many school teams.
Prior’s Field enters several District and County level tournaments in our core sports and we also have girls competing nationally in an array of individual sports.
Tennis coaching is available all year round from the Tennis Academy. This can be in small groups or individual lessons and is highly recommended.
Whilst enthusiasm and progress are rewarded continually through the schools merit system, excellence is acknowledged with Junior and Senior colours and half colours for those who reach a very high standard in their sports. Prizes are awarded at the annual Sports Team Dinner and at Speech Day for outstanding contribution.
The sport section of the school website will provide you with even more information. The PE department website: http://sports.priorsfieldschool.com details all of our sports fixtures, training sessions, match results, Twitter feed (@pfsport), PE department contacts and all other sports information.
Information for Parents
Core Sports Offered:
In the Autumn and Spring Term, all Lower School girls have a double games lesson of hockey and netball, and a single lesson of swimming, gymnastics, dance, fitness or ball skills. In the Summer Term, the core sports are athletics, rounders/cricket and tennis. Should your daughter be unable to take part in a games lesson, please send in a note or email on the day.
There are numerous sports clubs and activities throughout the week both before and after school, including team training sessions at lunchtimes.
Sport Teams and Matches:
All girls are invited to try out for teams and any girl who commits to practices and to attending matches, will play for a school team at some point. We run teams in netball, hockey, swimming, cross country and gymnastics, plus the summer sports. Team training is compulsory for all squad members.
