CREATIVE ARTS AT PRIOR’S FIELD
Creative Arts is a thriving part of the school. In the First Form, all girls attend a weekly period of Art as part of the curriculum, plus 3 lessons per week of Textiles as part of the technology rotation. They will also study Food Technology and DT as part of this rotation. We believe in building strong foundation skills in art and the visual world to provide the core ability that the girls will need for GCSE and onwards.
Creative Arts in the Curriculum:
Art in the First, Second and Third Forms we offer a wide range of experiences and ways of working. The courses are structured to enable students to become independent, confident and creative in a broad range of media and techniques while developing their own individual style.
Creative Arts Clubs:
A variety of clubs are available and include photography, crafts, textiles and sculpture as well as Aspirations Club for the most gifted artists. At GCSE and A Level, we have clubs specifically designed to support the projects undertaken in lessons and to help extend the skills needed at that stage of learning for example, Life Drawing classes.
We run an annual house art competition for girls from all years. Entries are judged by prominent artists and external educators as well as by the school community, with prizes for the winners and house points for all entrants. Entering work externally is actively encouraged, with girls exhibiting a number of exhibitions including The Mall Galleries, National , ISADA exhibition and more locally in Godalming.
Each year students in all year groups are taken to London to see the best of exhibitions and have the opportunity to sign-up for the 3 day, arts focused Activity Week trip. A very popular 5-day residential art and culture trip runs annually to Italy for Second to Fourth Form girls. In the Sixth Form, girls are offered an annual five day Art and Photography residential trip – recent locations have included, Paris, Rome, Seville and St. Ives. Sixth Form Textiles trips have included residential outings to Barcelona, Paris and Milan plus visits to London Fashion week.
The Creative Arts is an important part of the school and has gained a considerable reputation as a centre of excellence. Art, Photography and Textiles pieces are displayed throughout the site giving girls further opportunities to showcase their work and celebrate the breadth and variety of talents.
