Sporting Prowess – Friday 23 March 2018
Miss Fernandes reports ‘As the winter season has officially drawn to a close there are only a few events that remain for the news.
Last weekend, we were yet again tested by some rather cold and snowy conditions. Reluctant to cancel the last fixtures of the season, a few tweaks were put in place in the hope that the netball matches could still go ahead against Gordon’s. All teams managed to start but unfortunately, the U14’s had to call their game at halftime. The seniors weren’t prepared to let the weather be the winner and both the U15’s and U16’s made sure a full match took place outside while the U12’s and U13’s enjoyed being inside. All completed matches finished with a win which is a great way to end the season.
A few weeks ago our U12 Netball Team qualified for the Surrey Finals Day. With much excitement and nerves the team travelled to Wallington High School for Girls. Facing some tough opposition the girls really worked hard for each other. We have now received the official results where we earned the same points (19) as Reigate Grammar, however, due to goal difference have been given a highly commendable fifth place overall which is a brilliant result!
Another highlight has been the PGL Netball Tour. Three age groups (U13, U14 & U15) consisting of 10 girls per year group travelled to Liddington for a weekend full of netball and adventures. Playing against different opposition, each team had to quickly learn about their opponents’ strengths and weaknesses and how to outwit them. After all group games had been completed every team was through to the semi-final without a single loss. Going from strength to strength all teams played exceptionally well in both the semi-finals and finals to win their own age group. Across the board, Prior’s Field had won the entire weekend which was absolutely amazing!! Well done girls it was a truly fantastic weekend.
Our elite gymnastics squad competed in the annual ISGA competition at Guildford High school. This is an extremely high standard competition which the girls worked hard to prepare for it. It included floor, vault and a group routine and the team finished 13th out of 15 schools. Well done to Third Formers Amber, Andrea and Martha, Fourth Former Issie F, and Sixth Former Beate.
Thank you to everyone for your tremendous commitment and dedication throughout this season and to all our parents/supporters who have come to watch and support no matter what the weather. I hope you have a wonderful Easter break. Next term we look forward to our summer sports which are cricket (U12), rounder’s (all other years), athletics and tennis.’
