Sporting Prowess – Friday 9 February 2018

Mrs Fernandes reports ‘Fantastic news this week about our brilliant U12 Netball team who have qualified for the Surrey Netball Finals Day on Sunday 4 March. This is the first time in four years – well done girls!

Last week Saturday the U12 A&B girls were involved with our own netball tournament. Visiting schools included Tormead, Gordon’s, St Mary’s, Sir William Perkins and St Hilary’s. Both teams were very successful, the B team only lost one match in all of their group games and came runners-up in their tournament. The A team remained unbeaten during their pool matches, qualifying in the play-offs and winning the final.  We are exceptionally proud of all the girls for showing great support and encouragement for each other throughout the day, players of the tournament go to First Formers Grace for the B team and Lucy for the A team.

Not only have the U12’s been focusing on their netball – they were also in action at their Surrey Hockey Tournament. The group matches were exciting and the girls came away with one draw (St George’s College) and three wins against Sutton High, Tormead and St Dunstan’s. In the play-off matches, hard work continued and earned them fourth place overall which is really impressive!

Also this week, five netball teams have taken part in matches against Claremont Fan Court – U12 A, B & C and U15 A&B. All teams travelled to the opposition where they dominated play and came home victorious. Players of the match for the U12 teams are: First Formers Suzie, Katie and India. For the U15’s it was awarded to Fourth Formers Zelah and Jess.

The senior team played against Churcher’s College where it was from end to end in an extremely close game. Unfortunately they narrowly lost by two goals, but performed really well. Player of the match was Fifth Former Liv.

To finish off the week we hosted a Gymnastics floor and vault competition against Notre Dame.  All girls have really improved in confidence and executed their skills with control and precision. Well done to everyone for taking part and congratulations to the following girls. First Formers Robyn and Evie Denton 3rd place on the floor, Second Formers Maddie 2nd place on the floor and Summer 1st place on the floor. First Former Ruby achieved 3rd place on the vault, Second Formers Maddie 2nd on the vault, Ellie, First Former Evie and Second Former Evie were awarded 1st place on the vault in their category.
