Sporting Prowess – Friday 9 March 2018

We have a two week sporting update for you and it’s been a busy two weeks despite last week’s unusual weather!

Two weekends ago only one round of matches could go ahead against Tormead due to icy pitches. The U15XI’s had an end to end match with the final result being a 2-1 win and Fourth Former Esta was awarded player of the match. The U13A team completely dominated play and finished with a convincing win while the B team enjoyed a 0-0 draw.

Last week the snowy conditions were a real challenge for PE lessons and fixtures. Fortunately, some matches were able to still take place.

The U13A and U13B netball teams took to the indoor court against Claremont Fan Court. Both teams came away with a win and scores of 11-6 and 11-3 respectively. Players of the match were Second Formers Coco and Anya. On the same day the senior netballers travelled to The Royal where the 1st VII drew 10-10, player of the match was Fifth Former Millie while the U16B VII won 15-9 with Imi G receiving their player of the match vote.

Our swimmers have been involved in a gala against Notre Dame as well as the GSA gala at St Catherine’s. The following girls earned podium finishes at the GSA gala: Second Former Annabelle came second in U13 50m butterfly, Second Former Libby came third in U13 50m freestyle and Third Former Eloise came third in U15 50m breaststroke. Well done to all the swimmers who did us proud against some very tough competition.

Onto this week which has been extremely busy with the original scheduled fixtures going ahead as well squeezing in various tournaments that had been postponed due to the snowfall.

The U13 hockey team took part in their Surrey Tournament at Kingston Grammar School on Tuesday. Working exceptionally well as a team they achieved some fantastic results in their group stages which saw them finish with 3 wins (Epsom College, Wimbledon High, Tiffins), 1 draw (St George’s) and 1 loss (Cranleigh). We finished a very respectable 6th place overall.

In other hockey matches the 2nd XI, U12B & U12C teams have played against Farlington. All matches were highly competitive with the U12C team winning 4-3. Fifth Former Brydie & Fourth Former Evelyn were the 2nd XI players of the match while First Formers Tabby B and Sophie Q were the B and C players of the match respectively. The U13 team enjoyed their first competitive 11-a-side match against Farnborough Hill and comfortably won with Second Former Emily M given player of the match.

Several netball matches have also taken place this week. U12 A&B won convincingly against Rodborough – First Formers Suzie and Lucy I were respective players of matches. U14 A drew 18-18 to Howard of Effingham where an unfortunate ankle injury ended a highly competitive game early. Third Former Beatrice N received player of the match. U15 A&B teams suffered very narrow defeats to Manor House with Fourth Formers Issie F and Esta awarded players of their matches. 1st, 2nd & 3rd senior teams enjoyed very comfortable wins against Charterhouse. Players of the match were given to Fourth Formers Evelyn, Emma H and Sixth Former Emily B, respectively.

Yesterday, a very excited U12A netball team travelled to Wallington High School to take part in the Surrey Netball Finals Day. They played exceptionally well and should be very proud of themselves and the high standard of netball they showed on court, only losing two out of seven matches.
