Guildford Rotary Schools’ Charity Concert – G Live

Guildford Rotary Schools’ Charity Concert takes place at G-Live, Thursday 16 March, 7.00pm Tickets are £12.50 per person and can now be purchased direct from G Live on 01483 369350. Prior’s Field’s contribution will involve a selection of girls from the First to Sixth Form, and the programme will include music from the jazz band, rock band, the choir and a medley from last term’s production of Les Misérables.

Dance mania comes to Prior’s Field on 28 April! We are delighted to announce the return of this spectacular dance event. You may have attended or heard of its forerunners – The Catwalk and The Big Event. Many old girls refer to this as being one of their highlights and fondest memories of their time at Prior’s Field due to the camaraderie. PFAlive! is a very popular event with the girls and they enjoy working with a professional choreographer and performing with the Rock and Pop band. A few tickets are still available – please email arusholme@priorsfieldschool.com to be sent an application form (tickets £27 adult, £20 sibling).

Half-term is an ideal opportunity to get those creative juices flowing and enter the Interhouse Art competition which closes on Monday 19 February. Last year’s entries were breath-taking in both quality and quantity for the Art, Textiles and Photographic categories, and we just can’t wait to see the creative endeavours that are produced this year!

The Careers Department are continuing their series of Careers Talks which take place on Mondays between 4.30 – 5.15pm.

At Home with a SKY News Reporter – Monday 26 February

Nick Stylianou is a senior Producer at Sky News, having previously worked at the BBC, ITV News and Channel 4 News.  He currently specialises in defence and technology and spent most of 2017 chasing terror attacks and investigating the Grenfell Tower fire.

Rock and Pop

Tickets are still available for the annual Rock and Pop extravaganza taking place on Thursday 1 March. The music is provided by fifty Prior’s Field girls in various band combinations and is the culmination of all their hard work over the past few months. The Art of Illustration

Prior’s Field Art Technician Sophie Allsopp is also a talented book illustrator. She is displaying her work at Cranleigh Arts Centre in ‘The Art of Illustration’ exhibition, as part of the 2018 Cranleigh Literary Festival. The exhibition is on until Saturday 17 March and entry is free. More examples of Sophie’s work can be seen at www.sva-illustrator.co.uk.

After exhibiting here at Prior’s Field for a number of years, AppArt’s reputation continues to grow as a showcase for some of the finest artists in the South East.  Roger Dellar will open AppArt  on Friday 30 March (Good Friday) and will be one of many distinguished artists on view. Roger is a member of several national groups including the “Wapping Group” of which he was recently elected as President.

National artists exhibiting work include sculptor Philip Jackson, Rosa Sepple (President of Painters in Watercolour), Sorya French (President of the Society of Women Artists) and sculptor Marie Ackers. Local artists exhibiting are Christine Thompson, Christopher Cole, Susan Fisher and Ruth Bacmeister.

House Music Finals

On Wednesday 7 February the Assembly Hall will be jammed with melody and soul as the girls battle it out in the House Music final. Will last year’s winner Frank be victorious again? Come and support your House, all of the Priors Field Community are welcome! Doors open at 6:00pm for a 6:30pm start with a cash bar available, the running order for the performances will be Austen, Frank and Pankhurst. The winner will be announced after Half Term.

The House Drama and House Choir

Continuing with the theme of House competitions, next week will be a hive of creative activity, House Drama takes place on Monday within the school timetable and on Wednesday, during the school day, House Choir will be filling the corridor with heavenly voices. Winners will be announced in due course!

Sixth Form Lecture – Special Investigations

On Monday 5 February we look forward to welcoming Louise Brittain to talk about ‘Special Investigations’ as part of our Sixth Form Lecture programme. Louise works for Wilkins Kennedy and leads the Restructuring and Recovery Contentious Investigation and Insolvency team. She specialises in high profile, fraudulent and litigious insolvencies, international asset tracing and civil and criminal recovery cases. She was voted in the “Power 100” 2011 by Insolvency Today and the Accountancy Age top 100 power players in 2014, 2013, 2010 and 2003.

At the Heart of Godalming exhibition – Tuesday 30 January –  Saturday 17 February

A wonderfully entertaining and enlightening exhibition exploring Prior’s Field’s archives and the school’s relationship with Godalming will open on 30 January and run until 17 February at Godalming Museum. The exhibition is called ‘At the Heart of Godalming’,refering to the architect Charles Voysey’s motif for the school. Our new Archivist, Joanne Halford, has collated a huge number of fascinating records, memories and photographs from our 116 year history that will be on display at the Museum. Highlights include photographs that have never been seen as well as enchanting action shots from the Edwardian era, School Rules dating back to the 1950’s, Festival of Britain documents, early moving film footage, memorabilia from notable alumnae as well as original paintings and artefacts.

Classics by Candlelight – 23 January 7-9pm

Our talented BTec girls will be mesmerising us with an evening of Classics by Candlelight, performing a diverse medley of pieces including Chanson Triste by Tchaikovsky, Life on Mars by Bowie and Oh Woman Oh Man by London Grammar.
