Mrs Morwood reports ‘The Fifth Form historians went on a fast and furious trip to the Royal Army Medical Museum before half-term. The girls were given an excellent revision session run by the museum curator where they were using primary sources from the collection to answer GCSE exam questions. The girls had an impressive wealth of knowledge on medical history and impressed the curator with their enthusiasm in the subject matter. The tour around the museum’s collection was also very useful for the girls as it not only spanned our whole period but also focused on one of our key themes which is of medicine and war. The museum had kindly tailored the visit as a bespoke revision session and it was hugely valuable to the girls at this stage in their studies as they now focus on revision and exam practice. This is a fantastic museum and, being local, we were able to gain maximum exposure from a very little time out of school and achieved a great deal in the two hours.’
Fifth Formers were invited to the Sixth Form Loft this week to talk to the Head’s of Department and our current Sixth Formers about their A Level options for Creative Arts, Technical subjects, and Languages. The relaxed atmosphere, assisted by some delicious Hot Chocolate, was the perfect environment for the girls to find out about what’s on offer here at Prior’s Field and acquire feedback from the current Sixth Formers, studying those options.
The sessions continue next week in the Sixth Form Loft at break time :
Tuesday 6 February – Humanities
History, Geography, History of Art, Sociology, RS, Economics and Business
Wednesday 7 February – Science
Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Maths, PE and Psychology
Fifth Form invitation to Hot Chocolate and HoDs
Calling all Fifth Formers!! You are invited by the Sixth Form to a series of events to explore your A Level options with the Heads of Department. The sessions will take place at break time in the Sixth Form Loft, and they are an ideal opportunity to meet the HoDs to discuss progression to the next stage of your educational journey. However, much more importantly than this, there will be hot chocolate served! The schedule for the different departments is as follows:
The Careers Department are hosting a series of Careers Talks that will take place over the next few weeks on Mondays between 4.30 – 5.15pm.
The sessions are not only an ideal opportunity for students and parents to gain an insight into a diverse set of possible career choices but also a chance to meet professionals with fascinating backgrounds. Our speakers will talk about their professions, the path they have taken to their successful careers, and will answer any questions. We encourage the girls to attend one or more of the Talks, which can be booked on FROG.
Thursday was Sixth Form Taster Day for our current Fifth Year. Uniform and GCSE folders were put to one side for a day and the Sixth Form House became their base. This was their opportunity to have a taste of the style and pace of Sixth Form lessons with an opportunity to consider subjects never studied before to include Psychology, Sociology, Business, Economics and more. Biologists examined water fleas under a microscope, Historian’s studied Antisemitism in the Middle Ages, packaging design was under discussion in DT and a consideration of what is crime absorbed the Sociology sessions. Girls also enjoyed the opportunity to experience study-time in the common room.
